Found in the county of Bedfordshire, the town of Leighton Buzzard sits near to the county border betwixt Beds and Buckinghamshire, beside the Grand Union Canal, it has a population of around 37,000 and a history extending back to Roman days, when the early Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. Leighton Buzzard History: It is considered that there existed settlements in and close to what is now called Leighton Buzzard way back in prehistoric times, early artifacts and coins uncovered in the area give evidence of this fact. The early Watling Street (established by the Romans), now identified as the A5, cut through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe around about 2,000 in years past, and the Romans should have at least been aware of the village during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons came after the Romans, and it was they who created a market during the tenth century, and relics stumbled on imply that they were inhabiting the local area in all probability from the sixth century. The settlement as it was then is not documented until 906 after the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book described Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, historically, covered a significantly larger area compared to the town itself, and integrated the hamlets of Billington, Heath & Reach, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name appears to originated from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component was not to be included before the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to distinguish it from the other "Leighton" that existed within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to numerous tenants through the eras, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I during the English Civil War (1642-1645).
