Review of Leighton Buzzard:

Leighton Buzzard Information:

Location: Bedfordshire (Beds), England, UK.

Population: 37,000

Based in the county of Beds, the charming town of Leighton Buzzard is close to the county border between Buckinghamshire and Beds, beside the Grand Union Canal, it has a population of about thirty seven thousand and a past stretching back to the Roman period, at which time the ancient A5 (then known as Watling Street) passed the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is linked to the adjoining town of Linslade and it's about midway between Luton and Milton Keynes, it is found close to the Chilterns and has a significant quarrying industry (sand).

Leighton Buzzard Historic Past: It is considered that there were settlements in and close to what is now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in prehistoric times, old artifacts and coinage uncovered nearby offer proof of this fact. The age-old Watling Street (crafted by the Romans), now known as the A5, cut through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe over 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at least been aware of Leighton Buzzard at that time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who set up a market in about the 10th Century, and antiquities discovered show that they were settling the region quite likely since the 6th Century. The commune as it was isn't cited till 906 at which time the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book recognised Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, embodied a much greater area than simply the town by itself, and incorporated the settlements of Heath & Reach, Billington, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name of the town may likely have derived from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" part was not added on before the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln found it beneficial to differentiate it from a second "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to a variety of tenants over the centuries, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I through the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainLeighton Buzzard continued to grow throughout the coming decades and the construction of a railway service and a canal in the Nineteenth Century saw the town develop and expand. Present day Leighton Buzzard can be termed a thriving market town that has witnessed accelerated development in the last few years.
