Positioned in the county of Beds in the East of England, the quiet town of Leighton Buzzard lies near the border betwixt Bedfordshire and Bucks, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, the town has a populace of about thirty seven thousand and a past harping back to Roman days, when the early Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. Today Leighton Buzzard is coupled with the neighbouring town of Linslade it is approximately mid-way between Milton Keynes and Luton, it is found close to the Chiltern Hills and boasts a significant quarrying industry (sand).

The History of Leighton Buzzard: It is thought that there existed settlements in and near to what is now known as Leighton Buzzard stretching back to unrecorded times, ancient artefacts and coins stumbled on near by show proof of this fact. The age-old Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now known as the A5, passed through neighbouring Hockliffe and Dunstable over two thousand years back, and the Romans should have at the very least been aware of the village at this time.

The Romans were thereafter followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who were using a market sometime in the 10th Century, and relics picked up indicate that they were settling the locale possibly from the 6th Century. The commune as it was is not discussed till 906 after the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book mentioned Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, over the years, covered a lot larger area than just the town by itself, and comprised the hamlets of Heath & Reach, Billington, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name appears to originated from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece was not put on prior to the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln was required to distinguish it from another "Leighton" that was inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to several tenants over the ages, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I in the Civil War (1642-1645).
