Based in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the tranquil town of Leighton Buzzard lies near the county boundary between Bedfordshire and Bucks, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a resident population of approximately thirty seven thousand and a heritage going back to the Roman era, when the ancient Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. The History of Leighton Buzzard: It is believed that there were settlements in and close to what's now named Leighton Buzzard way back in unrecorded times, early artifacts and coins picked up near by give proof of this. The longstanding Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now named the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Hockliffe and Dunstable roughly 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at least been aware of the village during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was them who used the market place sometime in the 10th Century, and artefacts uncovered show that they were dwelling in the local area quite likely since the 6th Century. The settlement as such is not reported till 906 at which time the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book (1086) talked about Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, in times past, embodied a way larger area than merely the town alone, and covered the hamlets of Billington, Stanbridge, Heath & Reach and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name is thought to been taken from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece did not get appended prior to the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from yet another "Leighton" which was inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to several tenants over the generations, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).
