Located in the county of Bedfordshire, the bustling town of Leighton Buzzard lies right on the county boundary between Beds and Bucks, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, the town has a population of about 37,000 and a past harping back to the era of the Romans, at which time the historical Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. Leighton Buzzard Historic Past: It is considered that there were settlements in and near to what's now known as Leighton Buzzard way back in prehistoric times, age-old artifacts and coinage picked up nearby show proof of this fact. The age-old Watling Street (set up by the Romans), now named the A5, passed through neighbouring Dunstable and Hockliffe about 2,000 years ago, and the Romans would have at the very least been aware of Leighton Buzzard during those times.

The Romans were followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who used a market sometime in the tenth century, and artifacts found denote that they were residing in the neighbourhood quite likely since the 6th Century. The settlement as such was not observed until 906 at which time the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 reported Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, covered a far larger area compared to the town itself, and consisted of the hamlets of Eggington, Standbridge, Billington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name is thought to originated from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" part was not added up until the 12th Century after the Dean of Lincoln wanted to differentiate it from an extra "Leighton" which he had inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to various tenants through the eras, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe settlement continued to grow during the following years and the coming of a canal and a railway line during the Nineteenth Century saw the town grow and develop. Contemporary Leighton Buzzard can be described as a thriving market town that has witnessed improved development in modern times.
