Review of Leighton Buzzard:

Leighton Buzzard Information:

Location: Bedfordshire (Beds), England, United Kingdom.

Population: 37,000

Situated in the county of Bedfordshire, the small town of Leighton Buzzard is near the county boundary betwixt Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, beside the Grand Union Canal, it has a resident population of about thirty seven thousand and a story going back to the Roman period, at which time the historic A5 (then known as Watling St) passed by the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is pretty much connected to the adjoining town of Linslade and it's roughly midway between Luton and Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire), it stands close to the Chiltern Hills and boasts an important sand quarrying industry.

Leighton Buzzard Historic Past: It's considered that there were settlements in or around what's now known as Leighton Buzzard way back in prehistoric times, historical artefacts and coins discovered in the area offer proof of this. The early Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now named the A5, went through close by Dunstable and Hockliffe around two thousand years ago, and the Romans should have at least been aware of the village at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons followed after the Romans, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who set up a market sometime in the tenth century, and relics found suggest that they were living in the region in all probability since the 6th Century. The commune as it was wasn't listed until 906 at which time the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book listed Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, historically, embodied a considerably greater area than merely the town itself, and consisted of the hamlets of Stanbridge, Heath & Reach, Eggington and BIllington. The "Leighton" in the name seems to originated from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion wasn't put on until the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from yet another "Leighton" that existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were leased to numerous tenants over the eras, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I through the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe town continued to grow throughout the ensuing generations and the establishing of of a railway line and a canal during the Nineteenth Century saw it grow and develop. Twenty-first century Leighton Buzzard is a flourishing market town that's witnessed improved development in the past few years.
