Situated in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the small town of Leighton Buzzard is right on the border between Buckinghamshire and Beds, beside the Grand Union Canal, the town has a population of about thirty seven thousand and a story going back to Roman times, at which time the ancient A5 (then known as Watling St) passed the town. Nowadays Leighton Buzzard is attached to the adjacent town of Linslade it is roughly halfway between Luton and Milton Keynes (Bucks), it can be found very close to the Chiltern Hills and boasts a significant sand quarrying industry.

The History of Leighton Buzzard: It's felt that there had been settlements in or around what's now called Leighton Buzzard harping back to unrecorded times, early relics and coins stumbled upon in close proximity offer proof of this fact. The age old Watling Street (set up by the Romans), now termed the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe roughly two thousand yrs ago, and the Romans should have at least known of the village as they passed it.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was them who used the market place during the tenth century, and relics stumbled on show that they were residing in the vicinity in all likelihood since the 6th Century. The commune existing then is not observed until 906 at which time the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book (1086) outlined Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, historically, comprised a far bigger area compared to the town itself, and incorporated the hamlets of Billington, Stanbridge, Heath & Reach and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component wasn't applied till the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln found it desirable to differentiate it from a second "Leighton" which he had inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be tenanted to numerous tenants over the years, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who helped Charles I through the English Civil War (1642-1645).
