Found in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the busy town of Leighton Buzzard is right on the border betwixt Bucks and Beds, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, the town has a population of around 37,000 and a heritage going back to the Roman era, when the Roman built Watling Street (now the A-5) passed by the town. At present Leighton Buzzard is connected to the neighbouring town of Linslade and it is roughly halfway between Luton and Milton Keynes, it is placed near to the Chiltern Hills (Chilterns) and boasts a vital quarrying industry (sand).

Leighton Buzzard Through the Ages: It's believed that there had been settlements in or around what is now known as Leighton Buzzard way back in unrecorded times, old artifacts and coinage unearthed in close proximity give evidence of this. The age-old Watling Street (set up by the Romans), now named the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe around two thousand years back, and the Romans will have at least known of the Leighton Buzzard settlement as they passed it.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who were using the market place in about the 10th Century, and antiquities discovered mean that they were residing in the region quite possibly since the sixth century. The commune as it was wasn't cited until 906 when the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book specified Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, traditionally, comprised a significantly greater area than simply the town itself, and comprised the settlements of Heath & Reach, Stanbridge, Billington and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to come from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" element was not applied up until the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln was required to differentiate it from a different "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be tenanted to numerous tenants over the eras, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I in the Civil War (1642-1645).
