Positioned in the county of Beds in the East of England, the small town of Leighton Buzzard lays near to the border betwixt Bucks and Beds, on the Grand Union Canal, it has a population of approximately thirty seven thousand and a historic past harping back to the Roman era, at which time the historic Watling Street (now the A-5) passed by the town. Leighton Buzzard History: It is considered that there were settlements in or around what's now known as Leighton Buzzard stretching back to unrecorded times, old artifacts and coinage stumbled upon nearby give proof of this fact. The historic Watling Street (erected by the Romans), now identified as the A5, cut through neighbouring Hockliffe and Dunstable approximately 2,000 years ago, and the Romans will have at the very least known of the village during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons followed after the Romans, and it was Saxons who used the market place in about the 10th Century, and relics stumbled upon suggest that they were settling the locale more than likely since the sixth century. The settlement as such wasn't discussed until 906 when the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 named Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, over time, embodied a way wider area compared to the town alone, and integrated the hamlets of Eggington, Billington, Stanbridge and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name will have come from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" section wouldn't be included before the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln wanted to differentiate it from an extra "Leighton" that was within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be leased to a number of tenants over the ages, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who helped Charles I during the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe town grew even larger through the coming generations and the coming of a canal and a railway service during the Nineteenth Century saw it grow and develop. Modern day Leighton Buzzard is a thriving market town which has witnessed increased development in modern times.
